The Preserve of Midland will dedicate significant portions of the property to open space available for public access. Encompassing the entire perimeter of the property, this sizable open space balances the need for stormwater management, environmental protections, and the urgent need for open space in the City of Midland, while providing a buffer between development and adjacent neighborhoods. A continuous trail system enables pedestrian access, connectivity, and recreation for both visitors and the community of Midland.
Over two miles of new shared-use trails will be created throughout The Preserve, ensuring safe compatibility for walkers, bicyclists, runners, and families. In future phases, The Preserve intends to work with the City of Midland to connect our planned trails to the Wildcatter Trail network, which will provide alternative transportation from Midland to Odessa. We are currently exploring collaborations with nonprofits to host 5K races for the enjoyment of the community.
The Preserve is keenly aware of the stormwater functions of the site and is focused on using stormwater management to protect surrounding homeowners while creating amenities and ecosystem benefits for the community. By converting the existing golf course and lined storage ponds to more natural playa basins and “draw” channels, the development will address flooding concerns while increasing stormwater cleansing and infiltration. Native grasses, vegetation, and flowering species will also provide critical habitat for birds, pollinators, and wildlife.
In addition to large-scale green infrastructure practices for stormwater management, The Preserve will incorporate conservation practices at the level of each building and each site. These include Dark Sky compliance, energy reduction, rainwater catchment, and re-use of existing site materials where possible.
NEW ANNUAL TAX REVENUE FOR MIDLAND
The Preserve will generate new sales and property taxes to benefit Midland. These general fund revenues will help with funding city services, local schools, public safety, road repair, and parks and recreation.
An estimated 100+ new local jobs will be created with the development. We are also committed to attracting Midland-based local businesses to The Preserve.
